Facts:
  • The National Christmas Bird Count was started over 114 years ago by the National Audubon Society. The effort to identify and count all the individuals and species of birds in a 15 mile circle, it is the longest ongoing scientific survey in the United States.  The survey results have been instrumental in showing the rise and fall of bird populations, given early warnings of brd populations that are crashing, shown new increases of bird populations, tracked the introduction of foreign species like the Eurasian Collard Dove and shown the expansion or relocation of the bird ranges across the United States.
  • The Minden Circle was started 5 years ago by Jim Woods from Birding under Nevada Skis. In the 5 years of operation the Minden Christmas Bird Count has counted approx. 13,000 birds and identified 99 Species during the one day count.
  • The Carson Valley is a popular stop over or wintering area for migrating birds of all species from teh western United States and Canada, The rough-legged Hawk in one such visitor that migrates to this valley from its nesting grounds on the Tundra.
  • All Birders of what ever level are invited to join the Minden Count by contacting Jim Woods for information and take part in the feeder watch only. For Field assignments meet on Saturday  the 3rd of January at Woodett's Diner, 1492 HWY 395 at 7 am. or contact Jim Woods at Birding Under Nevada Skis for more information at jim.woods@charter.net

“Birding Under Nevada Skies” is a small local operation dedicated to the joy of birding in Northern and Western portions of Nevada, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains of nearby California. The goal of our business is to provide small, custom tours and individual guided excursions in the field in search of birds and other joys of experiencing the outdoors.

  • Hello: One of our clinic assistants will get some basic information from you. If we have seen your pet before, your information will already be in our system along with all your pet’s health records. New clients will be added electronically. No need to fill out paperwork while holding on to your pets- we’ll do that for you!
  • Let’s Talk: Next, we will discuss your pet’s lifestyle and history with you. Every pet is different, and it is important to talk through this to determine the best package of preventative products and services for your pet.
  • The Dr. is In: You will make your payment right there with our staff. We take all credit cards, cash, or personal checks. Then our licensed veterinarian is ready to see your pet. Feel free to ask questions as our veterinarian administers services. Once your pet has been seen and you’ve had all of your questions answered, you’ll be free to head out. That’s it! Congratulations on being a great pet parent!
  • Remember: All of your pet’s records are stored in our database and you can call or click anytime to retrieve them. If you have any questions about your pet’s services, or if your pet begins acting strangely after the clinic, please call us immediately at 1.800.427.7973.

We are excited to announce that we confirmed a special engagement event with our friends at Unique Elegance for Dec. 19th & 20th.
Unique Elegance Custom Jewelry is always on display in the store, but it is so fun to bring in Rosanne to show off her latest custom creations and to talk with the customers about custom creations she can make for them.
Unique Elegance was started as a result of breaking and polishing stones that were found in the desert near their Northern Nevada home. In the raw, the stones don't look like much, but breaking them down to a workable size for the rock tumbler and then, after 4 different stages each 1 week long, voila, beautiful polished stone.  What is fantastic, is to watch the result of each stage.  Each week we would look in wonder at the changes made. Seeing the change in each individual stone in color, shape and clarity.
Check out current inventory of unique custom creations here http://www.uniquelegance.com/ and plan to come by the 19th and 20th for this special event.
To Celebrate the event Eastern Sierra Feed will also be hosting a Gift Basket Decoration Station and specials store wide.

Had a great experience at the store today as I watched a little boy "Rowan" tromp though our store today on his stick horse, sword in had and charging through the isles as mom finished her shopping.
Do you remember the stick horse?  I know they were much simpler in our day, no fur and maybe a tad bit more imagination. But Rowan named his "Blacky" Because it was black and white and he held his sward high above his head, little blond head bobbing up and down with each gallop, I could imagine the drama that was playing in his head as he rode to save the day.
I too love my smart phone and love technology to some extent, however isn't great that kids can find the same imagination toys that we played with in the day, just as fun. A stick, a horse head and open space to play is all we need for an epic horse ride, sword drawn and nothing but the wind in our hair. Nothing to stop us except Mom saying it is time to come in, or in Rowan's case, Time to go. An adventure to be continued, on Rowans next visit as the traditional Horse Head riding stick is always in stock at your local family feed store.
